CASE STUDY: SUMMIT PHARMACEUTICALS and SUMMIT PHARMACEUTICALS INTERNATIONAL CORPORATION (SPI) Recently, SPI secured an approximately $45 million collaboration between Taisho Pharmaceuticals, Japan’s fourth largest pharmaceutical company, and Neurocrine Biosciences, a U.S. company, to develop Type 1 (insulin dependent) diabetes preventative therapy. They also secured a licensing agreement arranged by SPI between OSI Pharmaceuticals and Tanabe Seiyaku CO. Ltd. to develop a Type II diabetes treatment, and a $42 million agreement was finalized between Taisho and Millennium Pharmaceuticals for its development of a chronic asthma treatment.
